2017 West Georgia Invitational Tournament

2017 West Georgia Invitational Tournament

Participants and Tournament Officials Rei in to kick off the 2017 West Georgia Invitational Tournament

The 2017 West Georgia Invitational Tournament was held on September 9th, 2017. The event was located in the gymnasium of Central High School in Carrollton, Georgia. This last blast of Summer tournament is hosted annually by Robinson Karate Dojo and Sponsored by our very own International Karate Kobudo Union.

Soke Joseph Ruiz was on hand as the Executive Official and conducted the rei in ceremony and reciting of the Dojo Kun.  There were three rings of non-stop action, but this was no circus. With 40 pre-registered and approximately 50 total competitors, the competition was heated, yet friendly. Divisions included Kata, Kobudo, Kumite, and Team Kata and some divisions came down to tie-breakers. The competition attests to the level of training these karatekas are receiving under their respective Senseis and the IKKU.

Children are the future of traditional karate and to no surprise, they were the majority of participants. Older teens made up most of the group competing in the center ring with Kyoshi-Sei Larry Griffin officiating as the judge. Kyoshinkan Karate was represented in several divisions and Hanshi Lenny Jordan, founder of this organization served as a judge.

When asked about the day’s events, Shihan Dai Billie Robinson said “Robinson Karate Dojo would like to thank everyone, Soke Ruiz, Kyoshi-Sei Griffin, Hanshi Jordan and his students, IKKU members, competitors, judges, and volunteers for supporting the West Georgia Invitational. There was lots of energy, great teamwork, and good sportsmanship. It was a great day and we are looking forward to the next event. Again, thank you for your support.”
