Seiuchin Video Now Available

Control, Pull, and Battle

In this powerful performance, Soke Joseph R. Ruiz, 10th Dan and founder of the International Karate Kobudo Union (IKKU), demonstrates Seiuchin—a deeply rooted kata passed through the Naha-Te tradition. The name Seiuchin (制引戦) can be translated as “Control, Pull, and Battle,” symbolizing the calm before conflict and the clarity required to dominate close-range combat. For us at the IKKU we simplify this meaning to “Saint” which embodies these principles.

This form, handed down through the lineages of Kanryō Higaonna, Chōjun Miyagi, and Kenwa Mabuni, emphasizes rooted stances, controlled breathing, and explosive release. Soke Ruiz brings over 68 years of martial mastery to this performance, embodying the mental focus, technical precision, and internal strength that define traditional Shitō-Ryū Karate. More than a kata, this is a living expression of balance under pressure—where stillness becomes strength.

Watch the full performance and experience Seiuchin as taught through generations of Okinawan masters.

Soke Ruiz learned this kata series as a young man while studying under abroad and has generously shared the kata knowledge with the IKKU members during previous seminars and camps. Our organization is lucky to have access to this elite 1983 Video Series.

We hope you enjoy the exposure to this rare traditional shito-ryu karate kata series.
